The Knysna Heads Association (KHA)
Who we are
The Knysna Heads Association (KHA) is a voluntary organisation constituted to represent the joint interests of the residents and businesses in this iconic venue in maintaining and improving the environment and its interaction with a range of stakeholders, including the Knysna Municipality.
The financial year of the KHA runs to 31 October and the Annual General Meeting is held in December or January.
What we do
Our main objectives are:
Security – we installed and maintain 16 cameras in strategic locations. The cameras are monitored by Allsound and a special AI-software. This initiative has brought down crime virtually to zero.
Fire protection – we established our own fire fighting group and equipped it with a mobile pool pump, fire hoses and an adaptor for hydrants. The group meets on a regular basis for training and test of equipment. In addition the they check regularly all hydrants on the Heads to make sure, that they are not blocked. We work together with SCFPA and municipality to identify where fire breaks are needed and assist in creating them.
Communication – we established three WhatsApp groups for the residents:
“Heads General” – all about The Heads
“Heads NHW“ – posting anything relating to crime or security on The Heads
“Emergency Heads” – postings about fire, accidents, burglary, pipe burst, alarm etc.
We liaise with Municipal Law Enforcement and SANParks regarding the various view sites and picnic spots.
We assist in the management of the car guards at the top view site parking, Coney Glen beach and at East Head Café.
We will contact authorities when we spot problems like potholes or resurfacing that needs to be done.
We liaise with the town council and municipality on different topics, for example to get our share of the Ward 9 allocation.
Providing a contact list for emergency contacts of the properties.
Collecting and circulating recommendations about contractors, services etc.
